With the NHL preseason upon us, its official, hockey is back. Even though the hype for the preseason isn’t nearly as high as that of opening night, it is still an exciting time for hockey fans as they get to see their favorite players step back onto the ice. It’s important for hockey fans to know, however, that their teams’ records in the preseason will not reflect how they do in the regular season whatsoever. The preseason is more of a time for fans to see how their teams’ young prospects are playing, and how far away they are from potentially playing on the big stage as the preseason lineups are predominately filled with non-NHL regulars.
This year’s preseason, however, has the ability to be as interesting as ever as the influx of new prospects from the 2015 NHL Draft will draw many eyes. The main two attention grabbers from this year’s draft include the 1st and 2nd overall picks of Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel. These two players are considered to be generational talents so there is much more excitement behind the 2015 preseason as it is the first time fans will get to see these players in NHL action.
The excitement for the preseason is just as high in the city of Buffalo as the Buffalo Sabres were fortunate enough to acquire Eichel. Eichel is viewed as the potential franchise the Sabres have been looking to acquire for years, so Sabres fan are itching at the moment he finally gets to play. The hype is even further revved up for Buffalo fans because they also get to watch a vastly improved Sam Reinhart accompanied by the new trade acquisitions of Evander Kane and Ryan O’Reilly. Even though all the hype that comes from the preseason is usually unjust as teams never field a regular NHL lineup, Sabres fans have a right to be excited as the 2015 preseason is their first glimpse at the future of the Buffalo Sabres who have an extremely high ceiling for the future.
