An Update on Bon Iver

Bon Iver began the first part of their Asian tour in Seoul, South Korea at Ax Hall on Feb. 21. Originally, multi-instrumentalist Justin Vernon announced that there were no plans for a tour or an album, but they played some new material last year at the Eaux Claires festival in Eau Claires, Wisconsin.  This was the band’s first tour since Nov. 2012, when they toured for their album Bon Iver, Bon Iver.

The festival sent out limited edition cassettes titled Deux to ticketholders that feature demos and B-sides from artists from the festival’s lineup. “Haven, Mass” was one of the featured tracks from Bon Iver on Deux that dates back to 2009-2010. The tape also featured “Fall Creek Boys Choir,” a collaboration between Bon Iver and James Blake.

Vernon is contributing to the upcoming Grateful Dead covers compilation being created by the National for the AIDS organization Red Hot. Another new song came through a leak of Kanye West material for his album The Life of Pablo called “Fall Out Of Heaven.” The song is one of many songs that didn’t make it to the album, but found its way onto the Internet. This is not the first time that Vernon and West have collaborated either, with features from Vernon on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus.

The next stop on the tour for Bon Iver will be on Feb. 24 when they play at TICC in Taipei, Taiwan. The tour will also make stops Singapore, Japan, the Philippines and Hong Kong.
