Inferno is a mystery film directed by Ron Howard, based on the Dan Brown book of the same name. The film follows the events of familiar character Robert Langdon, played by Tom Hanks, after he wakes up in a hospital with a mysterious head wound and someone shooting at him.
There isn’t much to say about this movie. It isn’t a terrible film, despite its Rotten Tomatoes score, and it is far from the best movie of the year. But, if you are a fan of the previous two films in the series, The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, then you will probably enjoy this movie too. It’s a fun mystery film that has the same, interesting history/theology-related clues.
While Tom Hanks can do no wrong and is great in any film he’s in, his performance isn’t the most note-worthy one. Irrfan Khan plays a mysterious character known as The Provost, and his performance in this movie is very entertaining. You can believe that he is this character because he plays it so well. And at times, he is quite funny. But there is someone who is on the other side of this spectrum.
Felicity Jones, an Oscar-nominated actress, plays Dr. Sienna Brooks in this movie, and her performance is awful. Watching her in this movie makes you think that she put in as little effort as possible into this project. It seems like she just wanted to get paid and leave. In fact, her phoned-in performance is probably the worst aspect of this movie.
Inferno isn’t perfect. There are some minor plot holes and things that make it seem like the film was a bit rushed through production, but for the most part this is a fun popcorn movie where you can just turn your brain off and escape into the adventure on screen.
